I can still remember my first time on a stage as Joseph in the school nativity when I was 7 years old. When I was 8 I had my first role in a musical. Well I say role, I had one line, but it was in ‘Grease!’ and the theatre bug had been caught. A couple of years later I was the pantomime dame, at the age of 10! I learnt the basics of performing at a variety of stage schools but it was when I was 14 when I received a fantastic opportunity to train at the Birmingham REP’s Youth Theatre. There I had the opportunity to perform on the big stage and I started to cultivate and develop the voice I use today. What an honour it has been to appear at the REP, the RSC and Warwick Arts Centre in some fantastic shows including Sweeney Todd, Oliver! and Don Giovanni. I have also performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe three times, including with the Birmingham REP. The roles I have played have often required a wonderful mix of character acting and strong vocal ability and they have been challenges I have relished. |
Since September 2016 I have been a student at the Royal Academy of Music in London and have had some wonderful experiences performing at the Royal Albert Hall for Disney and working with the legendary Dame Gillian Lynne. The highlight of the year has to be performing Bring Him Home for Claude-Michel Schonberg (Co-writer of Les Miserables) and him kissing me on the head as a sign of his appreciation. It was a truly special evening. In recent times I have appeared in 'Timpson: The Musical' at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2018 where the show won The Stage Edinburgh Award and in January I played the lead role in the development production of 'Mob Wife' at the Cockpit Theatre in Islington. |
